We have had a nice long holiday weekend, and it is time to get back to work. The last item on your verb tense test was missed by almost everyone in the class! It was item #21: I think Leo SHOULD not make these sentences so difficult. The word "should" is a modal auxilliary. It is not important that you know what to call it. It is important to know what it means. We use "should" to mean "It is a good idea", or we use "should" to give advice. Examples: Every student SHOULD write on the blog. (This means it is a good idea or I am giving you good advice.) We should come to school every day. (good idea or good advice) We also use should with the word "not" in the negative.........She should not drink too much alcohol.
Now,........one more thing........If you are not working 3:00 to 11:00 today, write a COMMENT for this blog using "should" and if you are really smart, write another sentence using "ought to". "Ought to" and "should" mean the same thing as in " I ought to get off this computer because my wife just walked in the door!"
Vilma,
ReplyDeleteRight now the nap is more important. Stop worrying, you are doing fine.
"Important FOR us" is a better way to say it.
Lilia,
ReplyDelete------not bad----I think I would say, "I should put the coffee on tomorrow, so I ought to come in early for class.
Yikes!----Clara, Do you FORGET your money every day?? (Use FORGOT in that sentence.....Vilma, you are almost right except the word is "OUGHT TO"...also If I DO not obey the law etc. Phetsamay, I like your use of "on the button".I still think we should set up that hot dog stand in Laos. We could make a "bundle" selling them to the monks.....Ruben, Put a capital letter on English.. All language names begin with a capital letter...Carmen, "go AT" Megumi, Don't begin a sentence very often with the word "because".What happened to Etsuko???
